Sabbath Meal Enjoyed
Saturday evening,in anticipation of Holy Thursday when Jesus instituted the priesthood, the Mass and the Eucharist, the Community celebrated a "Sabbath Meal", a Catholic version of the Jewish Seder Meal which Jesus celebrated with his Apostles on Holy Thursday night before his crucifixion, death and Resurrection on Easter Sunday.
The Sabbath Meal includes singing, prayers, the breaking of bread and sharing of a cup of wine symbolizing the Eucharist in preparation and anticipation of Sunday Mass.A passage from sacred Scripture is read and discussed at a point during the Meal. A covered dish supper is then shared by the families of the Community. A lively discussion ensued following the Scripture passage challenging us to examine our Christian lives in contrast to the Pharisee and Sadducee to be found in each of us with the idea of rooting out those sins in preparation for the Eucharist on Easter Sunday and becoming holier people. Over the years, the FLC has celebrated the "Sabbath Meal" liturgy in family and in Community as anticipation of and preparation for the Sunday Eucharist.
